Meet Joann Seunarine

Research Assistant

Joann is a medical graduate student at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine pursuing a dual master’s degree in Public Health and Latin American Studies.

She is extremely passionate about civic engagement, volunteer work, human rights, and global affairs including health, languages and cultures.

Always inspired by her parents’ stories of their lives in Guyana, Joann was dichotomously filled with the joy and heartache that existed within each of those stories of happy memories and personal struggles. These stories instilled in her a strong passion for helping underrepresented, underprivileged, and disproportionately affected people around the world.

Her goal after completing her dual degree is to pursue a PhD in Public Health, specifically focused in Global Health. With this doctorate degree, she hopes to utilize her knowledge and skills to work internationally to support the needs and futures of others. She believes that healthcare should be standardized in a way that no one person in the world should suffer because they are of a certain race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or religious background.
